Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with Msgr. E. W. Lechtenberg officiating.
Dean Thomas Boice was born on August 15, 1934 in Decorah, the only child of Donald and Eva (Ryan) Boice. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1952. He married Laura Mae Baker on Sept. 5, 1953 in Winona, Minn.
Dean Boice worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 41 and 1/3 years. He retired in 1994 due to health problems. Dean Boice served on the Winneshiek County Conservation Board and for the Winneshiek County Republicans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising horses and chickens, visiting with friends at coffee and above all, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Laura, two sons, Don "Buck" Boice and Valerie and Ron Boice and Nancy, all of Decorah; two daughters, Beverly Phillips and Darin Nelson of Decorah and Joan Boice of Ridgeway. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dean Thomas Boice was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Verne Baker.
