Elise Margaretha Kruse, daughter of Christian Kruse and his wife, Margaretha, was born in Holstein, Germany on October 13, 1863, and passed away at the Boone County Community Hospital on March 4, 1951. She had reached the age of 87 years, four months and nineteen days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Germany.
Elise, together with her brother, Fred, immigrated to American in 1881, coming to Clinton, Iowa, where they stayed with relatives and found work.
On December 11, 1883 she came to Albion. On May 22, 1886 she was united in marriage to Jochum Krohn. The couple moved to a homestead west of Albion. Their union was blessed with seven children, Anna (Mrs. Frank Mundschenk), Josephine (Mrs. George Fritzen), William Krohn, Marie (Mrs. Fred Schroeder), Herman Krohn and Emma (Mrs. Kupker).
Mr Krohn passed away in 1910. His widow continued on the farm until 1918 when she to her home in Albion. In the fall of 1945 she met with an accident from which she never fully recovered. During the past several years she had been living with her oldest daughter, Mrs. Mundschenk.
She was preceded in death also by her daughter, Emma (Mrs. Kupker) who died in 1946, five brothers and three sisters.
She leaves to mourn her passing, six children, thirty-two grandchildren and thirty four great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Augusta Seaburg of Omaha.
Mrs. Krohn was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Cedar Rapids when that congregation was first established. Later she and her husband and two brothers helped found the Dennison congregation. since 1916 she had been a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, March 6, at the Zion Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Dennison Cemetery.
