Howard F."Butch" Berger, 73, Shelbyville, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 1995 at Community East in Indianapolis.

Butch was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Lawrenceville, Ind., the son of Peter J. and Eleanor Kreitzer Berger. He married Romilda "Millie" Hausman on April 21, 1948.

He was employed as an inspection foreman for 30 years at Allison Detroit Diesel, retiring on Feb. 2, 1982. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Butch served in the U.S. Army Air Forces WWII

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Council 822 of the Knights of Columbus which he served as grand Knight during the council year of 1960-1961. He was also a member of the Fourth degree St. Louis and Mary Assembly, the Shelbyville Eagles Lodge 766 and the Shelbyville American Legion Post 70.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. James (Kathleen) Creech and Mrs. Ric (Rita) Johnson; three sons, Ronald, Timothy, and Kenneth Berger; one brother, Edwin Berger; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. John Maung officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Murphy Funeral Service, with the Rosary at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Shelby County Cancer Association.
