Lola Mae Summers, 76, of Blackfoot, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012 at her home in Blackfoot following extended illness, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Lola was born on June 8, 1936 in Firth, Idaho, to Evan Lyon and Evelyn Iris Scheiss Mecham. She was raised in the Blackfoot area, attending Blackfoot schools and graduating from Blackfoot High School. She also attended classes at ISU in her later years.
On July 12, 1954, Lola married Boyd Summers in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later divorced. She raised four daughters and made her home in the Blackfoot area.
Lola was a member of the LDS church and served in various callings, among them stake singles director, ward bulletin specialist, organist, choir member, various callings within the Relief Society, and in many other capacities throughout her life.
She also served as director of the Bingham County Museum, was a past president of the Bingham Historical Society and was a master gardener.
Lola worked for 31 years as the financial officer of the Bingham Crisis Center. She also worked for State Hospital South, Sunspiced Potatoes and Ag Services. Many will remember her from the time she spent each fall working in the floral and antique displays at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
Lola enjoyed spending time at her cabin in Island Park with her family, gardening, collecting antiques, singing, traveling, and painting. She was a great cook and won many awards for her divinity and fudge at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Summers, Brenda (Dan Barrus) Summers, Sandra (Gary) Payne and Marilyn (Chris) Moon; grandchildren, Konner, Taylor and Madison Casanova, Erin, Shannon, and Troy Payne and Jennifer, Amanda, and Kathryn Moon; four great-grandchildren; five brothers, Evan Leon (Charlotte) Mecham, Norman (Virginia) Mecham, Dennis (Peggy) Mecham, Von (Kayleen) Mecham, and Reed (Marcia) Mecham; five sisters, Deola (Brent) Matsuura, Iris Phillips, Nelda (Bruce) Cowley, Erma Wolfley, and Victoria Mecham; and a brother-in-law, Chad Buttars.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Evan and Evelyn Mecham; a sister, Rhea Buttars; a brother-in-law, Ken Wolfley; and son-in-law, Dan Barrus.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Blackfoot 3rd Ward LDS chapel. A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery.
