The first Post Office and the first school house in the Little Wood River Valley were situated on James Carey's land.
Water rights in the Little Wood River were in his name 15 May 1884, he recieved a US Land Patent for 160 acres 12 April 1891. "James would have taken up more ground but he kept exxpecting to go on to California".
