Mary Young Miller Lees, daughter of Andrew Lees and Mary Whitelaw, was born on 23 Dec 1839, not 1843, as stated on her death certificate. Christened on 12 Jan 1840 in Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland (christening record).

She married Thomas Bell on 26 July 1861 in the Bothwell parish church, Holytown district, Lanark, Scotland. She, a 22-year-old spinster farm servant and he, a 25-year-old bachelor coalminer, both resided at Jerviston Square. (1861, Marriages, Holytown, Bothwell, Lanark,
p. 21, no. 42).

Listed here are eight of the ten children born to them. Their first child, a boy, born in 1861, died as an infant and is probably buried in Bothwell. Their son Robert Lees Bell remained in Scotland when the family left for America. No records have been found for either of them.
