VINCO — Funeral arrangements have been set for a Jackson Township firefighter killed in a tractor accident over the weekend.

Gary Craig Gongloff, 32, of Jackson Township, will be laid to rest Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery following a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nanty Glo.

Friends will be received today at Askew-Houser Funeral Home in Nanty Glo, where a visitation is scheduled for 2 to 8 p.m. and a vigil and prayer service are also planned, his obituary shows.

Gongloff was a 16-year member of the Jackson department and an EMT.

He died Saturday after a tractor he was riding overturned while he was working to remove a stump on his property, Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Lees said. He became pinned underneath after the 1954 Ferguson tractor tipped heading up a slight incline, Lees said Saturday.

Fellow firefighters responded to the scene and worked to extricate him, but Gongloff's upper torso injuries were fatal.

Jackson fire Chief Tim Hofecker said department volunteers were debriefed on the incident Sunday and had a chance to meet with counselors about Gongloff's passing.

"We're all handling it as well as anyone can expect. It's tough," he said, calling Gongloff "a good guy who was always there to help."

The fire station has been receiving sympathy from the community and fellow emergency responders from across the region in recent days.

"It's good to know that many people are thinking about you. It's very comforting," Hofecker said.

Jackson Township firefighters have also been rallying around Gongloff's family. On Sunday, several firefighters went to his home and finished the yard work Gongloff started, Hofecker said.

"We cut the grass and got rid of that old stump he was working on – just doing whatever we can to help them," he said.
