Beloved husband of Mildred (formerly of Lomond).
Russell was born March 15, 1922, the oldest son of William & Verda Honess. He received all of his schooling at Midway School (east of Lomond). Russell's dad passed away in 1932 so at the age 14 years, Russell left home to work for farmers at Rainier and the Bow City Coal
Mine. On June 18, 1943, Russell married Mildred Armstrong. This year they would have celebrated their 70th year of marriage. In 1944, Russell contracted polio and spent 3 months in the University Hospital at Edmonton. Even though polio left him with muscle damage in one leg, he didn't slow down and continued to farm. In March 17, 1949, his son Patrick was born and March 15, 1952 his daughter Lynn was born.
Russell was a member of the Lomond Lion's Club for 40 years and the Treasurer of the Lomond Community Center Board for 27 years.
Russell's favorite activities were playing cards, especially crib, farming, hours shooting gophers and more farming. Russell loved farming and he drove tractor until he was 80 years old. Russell and his family celebrated 100 years of farming in Alberta in 2009. In 2002, Russell and Mildred retired to Orchard Manor, Brooks, AB.
Russell is survived by his wife Mildred, son Patrick (Delores), daughter Lynn (Dennis) Orsten, grandchildren: Greg (Carolyn) Honess, Aaron (Melissa) Honess, Dalyn (Gwynne) Orsten, Robin (Rod) Klassen, great-grandchildren: Grace-Ann, Mack, Chase, Grady, Ethan, Nolan Honess, Odin & Terril Orsten, Ryker Klassen, sister-in-law Muriel Sokvitne and numerous nieces and nephews.
Russell was predeceased by one brother, Gilbert and his wife Norma, four
sisters: Marion, Ethel and 2 infants, brothers-in-law Edward Howell, Allan Vaile and Leonard Sokvitne, nieces Beverly Howell and Linda Schlaht.
