Augustus Lake Jones enjoyed many careers during his lifetime. He began his working life as a clerk and inspector for the US Postal Service, and he followed this with twelve years as a private practice attorney in Jacksonville. He also served as District Counsel for the Emergency Fleet Corporation, U.S. Shipping Board, from 1921 to 1924. In February 1924 President Calvin Coolidge nominated Mr. Jones as a judge for the US District Court, Southern District of Florida. The Senate confirmed his nomination shortly thereafter, and Judge Jones continued to serve in that position until his death in 1930.
