Esquire, of More, Linley in More, and Larden, Shropshire, of London. Soldier, Governor of Ludlow, Hereford, Montgomery and Monmouth Castles, Bailiff of the Borough of Bishops Castle, Shropshire. Member of Parliament for Bishops' Castle. Zealous Parliamentarian.

Son and heir to Richard More, Esquire of More, Linley and Larden, Sheriff of Shropshire, and Sara Harris, daughter of Roger Harris of Shrewsbury.

Husband of Katherine More, the daughter of Jasper More and Elizabeth Smale. They married shortly after 18 Oct 1610, the date of their marriage settlement, and had four children; Eleanor, Jasper, Richard and Mary.

Samuel was educated at Shrewsbury School where he attended in 1609.

Katherine attempted to divorce Samuel in 1616, claiming she was contracted to marry Jacob Blakeway. Samuel filed for divorce from Katherine on the grounds of adultery, which was granted in 1619. Samuel believing Katherine's four children to have been fathered by Jacob Blakeway, made arrangements with "honest and religious people" (John Carver and Robert Cushman of the Mayflower, eventually to be placed with the Winslow, Brewster and Carver families) for the four children to travel on the Mayflower to Massachusetts. All four children were listed on the Mayflower manifest. Eleanor, aged 8, Jasper, aged 7, and Mary, aged 4, all died by the first winter. Richard, aged 6, survived, was placed with the Brewster family, became a mariner and ship captain, married Christina Hunter and Jane Crumpton, and had five sons and two daughters.

Samuel remarried to Elizabeth Worsley, the daughter of Richard Worsley, Esq. They married before 1627 and had three sons and four daughters, including Richard, Thomas, Robert, and anne, the wife of Sir John Turton.
