Mrs. O.G. Reiniger Dies At 82

Death came suddenly to Mrs. Olin G. Reiniger, sr. at 10 minutes to 9 yesterday morning, February 14, in her home on Maple Hill.

About 4 week ago she fell and broke her hip as she was going to town. She was removed to St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City. Then she returned to her home and was doing well.

On Monday and Tuesday, however, complications set in which resulted in her death.

With her at the end was her daughter Caroline, Mrs. Starr Thayer, of Houston, Texas who came to care for her mother. While Mrs. Reiniger was in the Sioux City Hospital her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Scott Reiniger of Des Moines, was constantly with her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the American Reformed Church. The Van Etten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ellen Reiniger was born October 27, 1862 at Sandy Springs, Maryland, the daughter of Wilson and Caroline Scott.

She was educated at the Maryland State Normal School in Baltimore, and taught for several years in the Episcopa Female Institute of Virginia, and Sherwood School at Sandy Springs.

While visiting a school girl friend in Seneca, Dakota territory, she met Olin G. Reiniger and was married to him on March 20, 1888. They lived at Rock Valley several years.

Mr. and Mrs. Reiniger lived to observe their Golden Wedding anniversary on March 20, 1938.

Their home, Maple Hill in Orange City, was famous for its hospitality, and there was a sense of loss to many when the house burned several years ago. Mr. Reiniger preceded his wife in death on August 6, 1938.

Four children survive her, Colonel Gust, who is on the Island of Corsica, Mrs. Thayer, Mrs. Jones of Los Angeles, and Scott of Des Moines. The youngest son, Olin, died in December, 1937.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Haigh, Scott and Wright, all sons of Gust Reiniger; Sara Ann, Scott Reiniger; and Miss Martha, daughter of Ann Sawyer daughters of Mrs. Olin G. Reiniger, jr.; John Marilyn, Scott and Cally, children of Mrs: Jones; David, Jessie Ellen and Olin E. Thayer, children of Mrs. Thayer. There are 3 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Reiniger's oldest son and six grandsons are in the United States Army.

She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Service Star Legion, and the Eastern Star.
