William R. Faires was born 1799 in York, South Carolina, the son of James Faires (1770-1856) and the grandson of Alexander and Jennet (James) Faires. As a lad, he moved with his family to Tennessee in 1809. They lived in Tennessee, but when Alabama opened up for land acquisition, his father purchased land there in 1818. It appears the family did not live there, however, so the land may have been worked by an overseer. In 1830 his father, James Faires, is recorded in the Tipton, Tennessee census, and in the household is a son aged 20-29, probably our William R. Faires.

He married Jennet Jane Faires, a cousin, 30 August 1831 in Lauderdale County, Alabama. The couple lived in Tipton County, Tennessee where William's father lived and had their three children there -- Margaret Ann, Andrew Jackson, and Mary Jane Faires. William died after only 8 years of marriage, and Jennet Jane and the three children returned to her parents' home in Lauderdale, where she later remarried to William B. Armour in 1848.

After Jane's remarriage, her father-in-law, James Faires, was appointed guardian over his three minor grandchildren's affairs in Tipton County, Tennessee, likely to protect their interest in William Faires' estate there after his widow moved and remarried.

William Faires' burial site has not been found. He may be buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Lauderdale County, Alabama. Since no marker has been found, it could be broken and the pieces eventually covered over.
