March 15, 1951 - Carroll Daily Times - The Rev. C. Harrison Becker, Presbyterian minister, officiated at funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Huffman Funeral home here for Mrs. Mary Brand, 88, who died at the Knute Nursing home Wednesday night, March 7. A solo, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," was sung by Jean Redman, accompanied by Mrs. Clark MacDonald. Burial was in Westlawn cemetery. Pallbearers were: T.W. Everts, Prior Davis, Willard Simpson, Joe Gute, Grant Bender and Warren Dankle.
Mary E. Bliss was born in Jackson county, Iowa, Aug. 15, 1862, the youngest daughter of James and Mathilda Spurgeon Bliss. Her early girlhood, was spent in Linn county.
She married Fred Brand at Carroll June 3, 1891. Many years of their married life were spent on a farm near Glidden. Mrs. Brand had lived in this community since her marriage.
Two children, James Herbert and Anna Mae Brand Sievers, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Brand. Both children and her husband preceded Mrs. Brand in death.
Surviving are five grandchildren and four great gandchildren. Mrs. Brand was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kruse and family, Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rockey, Sheldon; Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Sievers and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Miller, and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Simpson, Lanesboro; Mrs. Bernlee Moore and Charles Moore, Farnhamville, and Mrs Paul Hicks, Lohrville.
