On Tuesday A.M. the oldest person in our parish was buried; it was the 94 year old grandmother Benning. The deceased had spent the last decade of her long existence with the family of her daughter, Mrs. Anton Schulte where on Saturday she closed her earthly voyage, well prepared and resigned, where she ever since her death of her husband who died already 25 years before, had been cared for as an esteemed member of the family in a most loving and affectionate manner. Two of her daughters, mesdames Henry Woebkenberg and Frank Gau proceeded her by many years into eternity leaving behind their mother with a large number of grandchildren. One of these grandchildren, Mrs Fabeck also died a number of years ago and left 8 great-grandchildren along with many others calling her great-grandmother. Sadly, but bowing down to the commands of the Lord over life and death, the aged matriarch recognized in the graves of her loved ones a ?(U or H or N)abinger of her own death. The last years of her life were virtually permeated by a longing for heaven, which has now certainly been granted. Besides the already mentioned relatives, William Benning and Mrs. Anton Wolking are children of the departed. The burial was on Tuesday A.M. with the participation of many acquaintances, relatives and members of the Christen Mothers Association, after a requiem mass. May good mother Benning who was the very apotheosis of the saying "old age is a crown of honor", rest in eternal peace!
