Martha Jane 'Marty' Patton, 65, of Orange City died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 am. Friday at American Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 pm. Thursday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mrs. Patton was born June 4, 1935, in Ellsworth, MN., the daughter of Joe R. and Gentina (Mulder) Hutt. She raised in Estelline, SD., where she graduated from high school. She attended Dakota State College in Madison, S.D. and was a teacher in rural schools.

She married Philip 'Phil' Kenneth Patton on June 1, 1958, in Estelline. The couple lived in Wyoming and Nebraska before moving to Orange City in 1962. She received her bachelor of arts degree Northwestern College. She was then employed as a first grade teacher at Hopers Elementary School for 29 years, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of American Reformed Church, Reformed Church Women's Ministres and women's circles. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Iowa Reading Association. She enjoyed crafts, needlepoint and reading.

Survivors include her husband: a daughter and her husband, Lynn and John Schneider of Holyoke, Colo; a son, Greg of Iowa City, Iowa, and his fiance, Amy Wenzel; five grandchildren, Rachel and Chad Schneider, Christie Stein and Christopher and Gentina Patton; two great-grandchildren: a sister, Jeanette Foster of Estelline; a brother, Bob Butt of Estelline; and nephews and nieces.She was preceded in death by her parents.
