Aged Monmouth Lady Passed Away Two Weeks After the Death of Her Husband -
Mrs. Christina (Christena) Neher, widow of the late David Neher, passed away at the home of her son, M.A. Neher in Monmouth Sunday morning, two weeks and one day after the death of her husband.
Her death was not unexpected as she had been in poor health for several years, and bedfast since the death of Mr. Neher.
The funeral services in charge of the Gregg Funeral Home were held at the Osage Church of the Brethren Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. D.P. Neher of the Osage Church, and Rev. W.E. Babb of he First Christian Church of Girard. Burial took place in in the Osage cemetery.
Pall bears were Floyd Tewell of Girard, Henry Neher of Scammon, Eli Neher, Ruben Neher, Lester Bennett and Lester Barlow of McCune.
A quartet composed of Leonard Kays, J.L. Mohler, Mrs. Earl Morrison and Bernice Wylie sang, with Mrs. Kenneth Millard accompanist.
Christina (sic) Alexander was born near Salem, Indiana, May 28, 1853 and was 79 years, 8 months, and 26? Days old. She moved to LaPlace, Illinois with her family when a girl of twelve years. She was married to David Neher July 28, 1870, and Mr. And Mrs. Neher were permitted to pass their 62nd wedding anniversary.
She united with the Church of the Brethren at the age of eighteen, and after coming to Kansas became a charter member of the Osage Church, and lived faithful to the church she loved.
She was a tender and devoted wife, a kind mother, and a good and obliging neighbor, She did a woman's part in building of her home, rearing a family and bearing the hardships of pioneer days. She was the mother of seven children, three of whom are still living. They are One son, Media of Monmouth, and two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Tewell and Mrs. Goldie Overley of Girard. She was from a family of twelve children, five brothers and seven sisters.Three brothers and three sisters survive her as follows: Frank Alexander of LaPlace, Ill., Charles Alexander of Corning, Kansas, George Alexander of Mulberry. The sisters are, Mrs Mahala Dowers of Hillsboro, Okla., Sarah Ann Cunningham of Pierre, South Dakota, and Mrs. Susie Nicholson of the Osage neighborhood.
She also leaves six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends to mourn for her.
