Dennis was born to Martin Miller Augustus YOAKUM and Laura Alice MILLER Burleson, in Indian Territory.

His 4 siblings were: Bertie Pearl, Martin, Lovie Ann, and Minyon Jewel; 5 half-Yoakum siblings, 6 half-Burleson siblings, and all 16 born before Oklahoma Territory statehood, in 1907.

He married Eva Velma JAYE, daughter of John Marion and Mattie DOBYNS Jaye, in Rosedale, McClain Co., OK, 05 Oct 1918, and to this union were born 6 children.

In 1940, the family moved to OKC where he worked for Wilson Meat Packing Co. Upon retirement, in 1966, he and Velma moved to a small farm in Wayne, McClain Co.

He was predeceased by his wife, Velma, in 1986; infant twins, a son, Bland Dale and a daughter, Frankie Vandale; his sister, Bertie Pearl Weaver Haymes; his brother, Martin, and 1 infant grandchild, Ellen.

Survivors include his children: Harold, Geneva, Dennisteen, and D.J; and his sisters, Lovie Barton and Minnie Roberson.

Services were held at the Wayne First Baptist Church with his grandson, Rev. Rick Blackwell, Chandler, officiating. Pianist was Janet Gray and vocalists, Mona Brakefield and Ted Idleman. Pallbearers were: grandsons, Denny Yoakum, Commerce, TX; Harvey Yoakum, Longmont, CO; Bob and Alan Blackwell, Wayne; Jim Lester, Broken Arrow, and Troy Blackwell, Wayne.
