ACKLEY- Gertrude Beving, 87, of Ackley, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Services were held Monday, Oct. 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ackley with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Father Jim Miller officiated.

Gertrude was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Ackley to William and Gertrude Blake Jacob. She graduated from Ackley High School in 1930 and attended the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn. Prior to her marriage she was employed as a legal secretary for H.W. Rickmeier, Attorney and legal stenographer to John Tuthill, attorney. On April 22, 1940, she married Joe T. Beving in Des Moines. She was a teacher in a rural Geneva school and then worked for the Iowa State Employment Service. She taught religious education for many years at St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, crossword puzzles, 4-H volunteer, and reading.

She is survived by a son, Larry and his wife, Bonnie, of Ackley; four daughters, Barbara Hildahl of Marshalltown, Elizabeth Opdycke and husband, Dean, of Fremont, Ind., Virginia Dougherty of Dubuque, and Rita Griggs and husband, David, of Addison, Texas; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Morrissey of Ames. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Stanley Jacob; and a sister, Dorothea Jacob.

Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley was in charge of arrangements.
