CLINTON, La. - Mary Helen Stevenson Shipp went to be with her Lord on the morning of June 15, 2008, at Lane Nursing Home in Zachary. She was at peace and ready to go home and claim her mansion in heaven.
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still water. He restores my soul. He guides me in the path of righteousness for His name sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me." - Psalm 23.
Helen was born May 10, 1918, in Greenville and was the baby of 16 children born to Liza and Charlie Stevenson. She married her high school sweetheart, Joe Shipp, on July 4, 1937; and they moved to Orange and later in 1943 to Baton Rouge, La. Helen was born again in the spirit of Christ and lived her life accordingly. She developed a close relationship and love with many in her extended church family. She worked tirelessly for many years in different capacities at her church and was always available to pray with anyone who was in need. She was a dedicated prayer warrior for all her loved ones and anyone who requested prayer.
Helen is survived by her son, Donald Ray Shipp; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda Jo and Charlie Stroud; sister Boud Bridges of Greenville; and grandchildren and their spouses Kevin and Mandy Shipp, Brian Shipp, Denny and Donna Efferson, Kary Efferson, Char'lee and Randy Van Osdell and Chris Stroud; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Charles Shipp, and grandsons Laine Carter Efferson and Barry Wayne Efferson.
Pallbearers are Kevin Shipp, Brian Shipp, Denny Efferson, Kary Efferson, J.C. Boyle, Randy VanOsdell and Chris Stroud.
