Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon for the late Mrs. Christina Sundquist, aged Oakland resident, who had lived in Nebraska for 70 years.
In failing health for several years, she had been bedfast at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Sommers, for the last 10 weeks. Her death occurred last Thursday, Oct. 27. Her age was 86 years, eight months and 25 days.
Born Feb. 2, 1863, in Vadstena, Sweden, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Anderson. At the age of eight years, she came to Dover, N.J., with her parents, and at 16 moved to Nebraska.
Her marriage to August Sundquist occurred at the home of her parents west of Oakland on March 17, 1892. Mr. Sundquist preceded his wife in death Jan. 9, 1941. The Sundquists had farmed in the West Side community until moving to Oakland in March, 1916.
Following her husband's death, Mrs. Sundquist resided for a time with her daughter, Amy, and Miss Eleanor Tucker, who assisted in caring for Mrs. Sundquist in her final illness at the Sommers home here.
Mrs. Sundquist had been a member for 71 years of the West Side Methodist church, having the distinction of holding the longest membership in the church at present. Her father was a charter member of the church.
Surviving are two daughters, Amy Sundquist of Santa Barbara, Cal., and Mrs. Sommers of Oakland; three grandchildren, James Sommers of Auburn, Mrs. Lois Huling of Detroit, Mich., and Clarice Sommers of Oakland; three great-grandchildren, Jimmie Sommers and Nancy and Bobby Huling, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles A. Anderson of Oakland.
Funeral services were held at the Palmquist funeral home, Saturday afternoon, Rev. C.H. Lind, pastor of the West Side Methodist church, gave the funeral sermon, and Rev. D.T. Gustafson read scripture and prayer.
Miss Geneve Palmquist sang "The Lord's Prayer" and Miss Edna Johnson sang "Face to Face".
Pallbearers were Arvid Anderson, Earl Anderson, Arvid D. Johnson, Vernor Anderson, Francis Larson and Albert Swanson. Burial was made in the West Side Methodist cemetery.
