Eleanor McKean was born on Jul 1, 1839 in Crawford County, Missouri, to Abner Grimes McKean and Dorcas Woolsey. She married Ivan Brown in 1855 at just 16 years old, and had 2 children with him. Ivan passed away, and Eleanor married Charles Ernest Setzer on Mar 12, 1862, also in Crawford County, Missouri. She had 4 children with Charles before she, Charles and her 6 children moved to Orcas Island in Washington State. They were one of the first white families on Orcas Island, the rest being settled by Native Americans. She and Charles had 3 more children after moving to Washington State. Eleanor died on May 6, 1905 in Bellingham, Washington.

There is no current marker. Due to the diligent efforts of Eleanor's great-great grandson, we have found that Eleanor and her husband Charles are indeed buried there, and plans are underway to purchase a tombstone for them.
