Anna Gertrude Heinig was born on Mar. 13, 1910 in Jefferson Co., Kentucky. She was the daughter of Eugene Robert Heinig (1879-1911) and Katharine Dossity "Kate" Gallanger (1878-1966), both buried in the St. Louis Cemetery in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY.

Gertrude's father, Eugene, was a native of Jefferson Co., KY. He was the son of Frederic Edward Heinig (1849-abt 1905) and Louisa Strohmeier (1852-1899), both buried in Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, KY.

Gertrude's mother, Katherine, was also born in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of Patrick Hippolite Gallagher (1849-1917) and Bridgit Anna Higgins (1853-1889), both immigrants from County Mayo, Ireland.

On July 27, 1933, in Jefferson Co., KY, Gertrude married Arthur George Gagel (1909-1990). Both Gertrude and Arthur were 23 years of age when they married. They were married for 56 years and had five known children. They are listed in Arthur's memorial.

Arthur was the son of Joseph Riley "Joe" Gagel (1861-1950) and Barbara Weber (1869-1960), both born in Jefferson County. They are buried in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in that county. For many years Joe was a truck farmer and had a 30 acre farm on present day Dixie Highway in the area of Holy Cross High School.

Arthur died in May of 1990 at the age of 80. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Louisville. Gertrude died on Apr. 20, 1994 in Louisville, KY, at the age of 84. She too, is buried in Calvary, next to her husband, Arthur.
