Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2021, at Village Chapel for Truman Guthrie, 96, of Gadsden, who died November 5, 2021. Bro. Richard Acray and Rev. Mike Cleckler will officiate. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Truman was a proud US Army veteran of World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded during combat. After being honorably discharged, Truman worked as a letter carrier and after many years of service he retired from the US Post Office. He also worked for Dial-A-Ride for 19 years.

Truman was always very active in church, and he loved both of his church families at Noccalula Church of God and the Cathedral of Praise. He played bass guitar for several gospel quartets. He was a HAM radio operator and a pilot. During his free time, he enjoyed fishing and loved getting out to travel.

Mr. Guthrie is now reunited with his wife, Bennie Guthrie; son, Jeffrey Guthrie; son-in-law, JT Pollard; and parents, John and Bessie Guthrie.

He is survived by his daughter, Fredrica Pollard; son, Brent (Vanessa) Guthrie; grandchildren, Christy Pollard, Keith Pollard, Adam (Lesley) Guthrie, and Erin (Dan) Lockridge; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Rivera, Emilio Rivera, Jonah Christ, Sam Lockridge, and John L. Jones.

Special thanks to his caregivers, Beverly Bellew and Sheila Knight, the staff of Encompass Hospice, and also to Rev. Jan Stanley.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Friday.
