Richard (Daddy Dick)Welsh worked on the Kawartha Lakes riverboat system as a young man for Captain Timothy Lane. Here he meet Hanora (Annie) Lane and when married they farmed in the Lindsay-Peterborough area for many years with a small sojourn into Stutsman County, North Dakota for a short spell. There, they followed sons Edward and John but returned to Lindsay when the two boys homesteaded in Alberta in the early 1900's. Richard and Annie both passed away while Edward, their oldest son, was away to Scotland with the Canadian Forestry Corps in WW1.

It was likely that Richard worked for soon to be brother-in-law Captain Maurice Lane. I have found no records of Timothy Lane as a steamboat captain.

Richard had a sister now listed on Find a Grave - Margaret Walsh. She married John McEvoy and they lived in Lindsay John died in 1918 in Lindsay and is alsoburied in this cemetery. Margaret is buried here in St Patrick Section Plot 85 Graveside 03S
