J. MAURICE TAWES
J. Maurice Tawes, 87, died in his home on Pine Street Saturday following a six months illness.

Born in Crisfield, he was the son of the late John P. and Susan White Tawes. He was a member of the J. P. Tawes and Brother Ship Chandlery, founded in 1883, and a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church here. He attended the Wilmington Military Academy.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leila Dana Tawes; three sons, John P. Tawes, Gen. M.D. Tawes and Robert L. Tawes; four grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in Bradshaw and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. John Taylor of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Marion.

The family suggests that, as a tribute to the memory of the deceased, contributions may be made to the Cancer Fund or McCready Memorial Hospital.
