Morton H. Abramowitz, 86, of Niagara Falls, NY, husband of the late Esther E. (nee Pasternak) Abramowitz, passed from this life, unexpectedly, on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at his residence. Born on May 7, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dora (Hochberg) Abramowitz.

Mr. Abramowitz was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. Morton attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He later earned a degree in business from the University of Michigan as well as his Juris Doctor of Law Degree from the University at Buffalo. Mr. Abramowitz proudly served in the United States Army as a Non-Commissioned Officer, during World War II. Morton was a distinguished Attorney in Niagara Falls, NY as well as former Niagara Falls City Manager, former Niagara County Attorney and was currently the legal advisor for the Niagara Falls City Council and Niagara Falls Library Board. He was very well respected for his knowledge in Municipal Law. Mr. Abramowitz was a member of the former Temple Beth Israel in Niagara Falls, NY and Rotary International of the Niagara Falls, NY chapter, where he served as Past-President. Morton also served as Past-President of the Jewish Federation and the Health Systems Agency. He also served as a volunteer for the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. Service was a very important aspect of his life. One of Morton's quotes was "service is the highest honor of any public servant." The family is grateful for the dedicated friendship of Mike and Mary Maloney and the loyal years of service of Cathy Colquitt.


Mr. Abramowitz is survived by one daughter, Deborah (Ronald) Cary of North Tonawanda, NY; two grandchildren, Sarah (Kendall) Lucy of Colorado and Daniel M. (Wendy) Perry of New York and five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Alexis Perry and Logan, Violet and Hazel Lucy. Morton is also survived by one sister, Edith Shapiro of Arizona and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one sister, Jeanette Abramowitz and one brother, Charles Abramowitz.
