BROWNSTOWN - Donald James Cable, 85, of Brownstown died 7:45 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) in Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forbis Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorials: Friendship Manor, St. Elmo, or Mooseheart.

Mr. Cable was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Brownstown, the son of James William Cable and Bessie Engle Cable. Mr. Cable was a farmer and also worked as a construction laborer. He was a life member of Moose Lodge 1447, Vandalia; Eagles Aerie 1309, Vandalia; past director of Vandalia Levee and Drainage District. He married Gladys "Marie" Cable June 18, 1936, in Vandalia. She preceded him in death Sept. 7, 1997.

He is survived by his son, Larry and wife Joyce of Vandalia; grandchildren, Vicky and husband Jeff Workman, Kathy and husband Mike Roedner and Ronald Cable; great-grandchildren, Ronald Cable, Brandon Cable and Afton Workman; great-stepgrandchildren, Shannon Roedner and Lindsey Roedner; three great-great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
