When Johns father Thomas Whitman Ellit died from an horse accident he and his mother, and siblings, moved out to Pettis County, Missouri. He was married to a gal by the name of Lucy Ellen Hood. The marriage was in 1880 performed in Pettis County. They adopted a young infant boy by the name of Oscar Marion Duff. Lucy becomes pregnant in her first year of marriage and before she gave birth her husband John Thomas Ellit dies. Her little son is born, James William Ellit, and he dies 9 months and 22 days later. He is buried near his father and across from his grandmother Asberenia Elizabeth Ellit.

Gravesite Details

The stone is broken and hard to read. The record at Hopewell Cemetery has John T. Ellit's dod as 21 Mar 1881, but the stone looks like the date to be either a 23 or 28?
