Rose Mary (Arkfeld) DeLong died early morning on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the age of 55 after battling inflammatory breast cancer for over two years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the residence of Rose's brother, Michael Arkfeld, in Phoenix, Ariz., where a celebration of Rose's life will take place at 3 p.m. followed by a dinner at 4:30 p.m.
Rose Arkfeld was born May 23, 1957, in Norfolk to Joseph and Lucille Arkfeld. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Norfolk Catholic High School in Norfolk. She graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School in 1976. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha and received a bachelor of science degree in Education in 1983.
Rose married Richard DeLong on June 11, 1983, in Omaha. On Oct. 26, 1988, Rose gave birth to her daughter, Kathryn Anne DeLong, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Rich worked in Omaha at a wholesale florist supply company, and Rose worked for Commercial Federal Savings and Loan in the early 1980s. During the summer of 1988, Rich started a wholesale dried flower production company (The Florist Brokerage Inc.) in Lamoni, Iowa, and Rose joined him in the operation of that company in early 1989.
Rose and her family moved to Phoenix in February 1994. In Arizona she took over the management of their wholesale production company until it was sold in 1996. She then assisted her husband, Rich, with the operations of their two other floral companies. In 2007, she formed her own company, Preserve Your Flowers Inc., and became one of the top floral designers in the nation in her field.
Rose enjoyed being with family and attending family activities, reading science fiction and fantasy books, going to the movies, quading, sightseeing, remodeling houses and attending family reunions.
