Charles Lendel Brooks was born 28 June 1941 in Lansing, Michigan to Charles Elon and Rubye Mae (Steele) Brooks. He spent his early childhood in Eaton Rapids and Lansing, Michigan. During his early school years the family lived in Weakley and Henry Counties in Tennessee, where both of his parents were born and raised. His high school years were spent in Nineveh, Indiana. The family had moved to Indiana when Elon obtained a job at International Harvester in Indianapolis. Lendel graduated from Nineveh High School.
Charles Lendel was in the U. S Army. He served 1964 in Korea. After leaving the Army he spent his life with his wife, Glenna Dawn, and their children in Franklin and Mooresville, Indiana. He worked at Allison Transmission and Rolls Royce in Indianapolis until his retirement.
