STRAWN - Retired Lt. Col. Robert W. Thompson, 60, Hope Mills, N.C., formerly of Strawn and a native of Colfax, died Friday (Sept. 28, 1990) in Fayetteville, N.C., after a long illness.

He was cremated. There was a military graveside service at Hope Mills Cemetery. Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Colfax, a son of Claire and Mary Dover Thompson. He is survived by his wife.
Other survivors include his mother, two sons, two daughters, three sisters, a brother, two half brothers, and six grandchildren.

His father preceded him in death.

Mr. Thompson retired in 1974 after 24 years with the Green Berets, 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He attended Strawn schools, where he made his home until going into the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
