W.M. Gordon, Rail Engineer Dies in Hospital.
William Marion Gordon, 69, 0f 1428 Glenwood Road, a Southern Railway engineer, died Saturday night at the Baptist Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Gordon was born August 10, 1888 in Rock Hill, a son of the late Laura and Robert Gordon, He made his home in Columbia since 1922.
He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for 25 years and a charter member of the Baraca Class. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Haynes Gordon; one son, William M. Gordon, Jr., of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mrs. W.A. McCorkle of Charlotte, N.C., and Mrs. S.C. Harnsucker of Rock Hill; Three Grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from the First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. R. Archie Ellis. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Dr. W.L. William, H.R. Going, Henry S. Martin, Otis Johnston, C.B. Mobley and F.A. DeMars.
Honorary pallbearers will be; Members of the Baraca Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church, members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Dr. M. Whitefield Cheatham, Sr., Frank Meeks, Jesse Anderson and James Dobson.
Active pallbearers will meet at the Dunbar Funeral Home at 2:30. Honorary pallbearers will meet at the church at 3'oclock.
