He was born July 21, 1928, in Nebo, Illinois, a son of Beach and Neva Killebrew Barton. He married Lillian Harpole on Nov. 1, 1946 and she survives.
Dallas was a lifelong farmer in Pike County, farming first with his father and then later with his son. He was a member of the Nebo Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for over 50 years and a Sunday School teacher for 60 years. He also served on the Nebo Cemetery Board, was a Spring Creek Township Trustee, Moderator of the Bay Creek Baptist Association and was 2012 Vin Fiz Grand Marshall.
Survivors include three children, Carol (Phil) Freesmeyer, Brenda (Max) Middendorf and David (Debbie) Barton; eight grandchildren, Jeff (Janeen) Freesmeyer, Jeremy (Carrie) Freesmeyer, Jason (Amber) Freesmeyer, Craig (Rachel) Lacy, Abby (John) Rheinecker, Dr. Jennifer Barton, Austin Barton and Mitchell Barton; nine great- grandchildren , Isaiah Freesmeyer, Kenlea Freesmeyer, Ashton Freesmeyer, Willow Freesmeyer, Jaden Freesmeyer, Clay Freesmeyer, Kenton Freesmeyer, Kaleb Freesmeyer and Kade Freesmeyer and another granddaughter due in August; a brother, Lyle (Blanche) Barton; a sister, Melva Ree Melton; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lovene DeGuire; St. Louis, MO and a brother, Finis Barton, Pittsfield, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Nebo Baptist Church with Rev. David Hamilton and Rev. Mike Rutledge officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will be in the Nebo Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to be made to the Nebo Baptist Church or donor’s choice.
