Bernard E. Bandy, age 83 of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness. Born January 26, 1930 in Bandy, Virginia he was the son of the late George Vince Bandy and Hatty Christian Bandy.

Bernard was a member of UMWA Local 2322 and worked in the coal mines for 38 years. He was a kind and loving man and a friend to all.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Pauline Lambert Bandy; his son, Russell David Bandy; four sisters, Pansy Steele, Kathleen Beavers, Meda Rae Barnett and Janice Bandy; four brothers, George Vince Bandy, Jr., James Bobby Bandy, Delbert Bandy and Herman Bandy.

He will be dearly missed by his surviving children, Eugene Bandy and wife Donna of Lebanon, VA, Teresa Lou Brown and husband Randal of Claypool Hill, VA, Rita Childress and husband Clyde of Baptist Valley, VA and Anita Chocklett and husband Rob of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Vanessa Hicks and husband Shane, Gene Bandy, Justin Bandy, Tonya Miracle and husband Kasey, Tara Morris and husband Billy, Ashley Brown, Jennifer Hall and husband Aaron, Jillian Sawyers and husband Andy, Wesley Childress, Brandon Chocklett and Austin Chocklett; five great-grandchildren, sisters, Bell Altizer of Amonate, VA and Joann Copeland of Wetempka, Alabama; brother, Bill Bandy and wife Dean of Claypool Hill, VA; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Rev. Aaron Hall and Rev. Roger Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Friday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
