Lawrence, as he was more commonly known, was the son of Archie Alvis Alderman and Edna Bessie Jarrell; both of whom are buried in Mordue Cemetery. He was married to Nettie Virginia Hindle on January 4, 1936 at Red Dragon, WV. They had two sons, Kenneth and Paul.

Lawrence worked as a coal miner for the Blue Pennant Coal Company at Red Dragon, WV. He also worked at High Coal, Ferndail and Birchton, where he was President of the Union Local for a number of years. He later worked at Columbus, OH for Wonder Bakery Company. He later moved his family to Cleveland, OH. He worked Angle Nail Company and then went to work in the Chevrolet plant until his retirement.

He and his wife are buried next to each other in West Park Cemetery. Their joint headstone is a flush to the ground marker of gray marble with a rose in the upper left and upper right corner of the headstone.

West Park Cemetery is owned by the City of Cleveland and opened on May 1, 1900. Nettie was the 40,143rd person to be buried there and Lawrence was the 40,294th person buried there.
