Rev. Edward L. Stone was born in Carbon, September 3, 1882 and passed away at Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, August 26, 1955.
On December 21, 1902, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Reese of Carbon and to this union were born three sons.
In 1904, he became a member of the Iowa-Des Moines Conference of the Methodist Church, and served as an active minister until his retirement in June 1954.
He attended the First Methodist Church of Des Moines, Iowa.
One son, Vertle, and three brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors are his widow, Charlotte, to sons, Edward of Burlington and Wendell of Des Moines, a brother, Fred W. Stone of Glendale, California; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Gebbie of Carbon, Mrs. Tessa Beadell of Glendale, California, Mrs. Vaughn Hughes of Glendale, California; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 28, in Asbury Church in Des Moines where Rev. Stone had served the last six years of his ministry. Dr. C. C. Bacon of the First Methodist Church of Des Moines had charge of the services, assisted by Dr. Scheever, Chaplain of the Methodist Hospital.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Herbert Redhead, organist and Wesley Redhead, who sang two numbers, "Be still my soul," and "My God and I."
Pall bearers were Charles Schulling, Mr. Strain, Howard Murphy, Arthur Henning, Milton Shelton, and Herbert Redhead. Honorary pallbearer was Mr. S. A. Thompson. All were from Asbury Church.
Interment was made at Oakland Cemetery at Quincy with short services by Rev. Clare H. Boos of Carbon Methodist Church.
Pallbearers at the cemetery were Ivan Reese, Donald Gebbie, Frank Gebbie, John Hunter, Robert Gebbie, Jr., and Ralph Hancock.
