Norman W. Benkert Oct. 30, 1914 - Jan. 17, 1989

MONTICELLO – Norman W. Benkert, 74, Monticello, died
Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1989, at the New Glarus Home, where he
resided since Dec. 11, 1986.
Born Oct. 30, 1914, in Monticello, he was the son of William and
Ethel (Morrell) Benkert. He was a 1933 graduate of Monticello High School and was
married to the former DeLoris Alice Lunn Jan. 15, 1938 in Dubuque. She died Dec. 22, 1970. He later married Johanna Ann Schlaff Nov. 13, 1974, in Effingham, Ill.

A lifelong Monticello resident, he worked as a painting contractor and was the high school custodian. He also was a supervisor in the paint department at Oaktron until his retirement. He was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello, a former Green County deputy and a long-time member of the Monticello Fire Department and was made an honorary member of the department.

Survivors include his wife, Johanna; two sons, Daniel D. of Rapid City, SD, and Fred of
Madison; two daughters, Norma Jean Duff of Evansville and Mrs. Stephen (Pat) Pederson of Monticello; two step-daughters, Mrs. Daniel H. (Mary) Eloy of Janesville and Mrs. William (Joan) Mann of Frankfort, Ind.; three sisters, Ruth Schrepfer of Belleville, Thelma B. Moore of Monroe and Mrs. James (Theo) Dillman of Beverly Hills, Fla; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1955, his mother in 1968, a brother, Edward, in1966, and three sisters, Alice Deihl in 1977, Peggy Bidlingmaier and Elinor Segebart. both in1988.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Zwingli United Church of Christ, with the Rev. ErwinH. Pegel officiating. Burial is in Highland Cemetery, Monticello.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday at the Zwingli Church Memorial Lounge and from 9 a.m.to time of services Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Voegeli Funeral Service is in charge.
