Son of Abraham Newton Chandler and Julia Ann W. King Chandler. He was orphaned due to the death of his mother in 1856 and his father in the Civil War in 1862. He came to Hunt Co, TX with his maternal Aunt, Jane King Hazel and her husband William Hazel. He inherited land in Denton Co, TX from the estate of his mother Julia Ann W. King Chandler, who was the daughter of John W. King. John W. King was a settler of the Peter's Colony.

He is buried next to his wife Lucy Clementine Hefner Chandler, without a headstone.
