Dick Allen, 83, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer.

A Memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery at 3 p.m.

Dick was born July 31, 1929 in Hampton, Iowa to Merl and Evelyn (Paullus) Allen. He was Chief Engineer at Eagle Iron Works in Des Moines. Dick graduated from Hampton High School and from Iowa State University with degrees in Electrical, Mechanical and Design Engineering; he was also a member of the ISU Alumni Association.

He was united in marriage to Ada J. Allen on February 14, 1952.

Dick enjoyed woodworking, gardening, tinkering, reading, listening to music and computer technology.

Dick is survived by his three children, Diane Roll of Des Moines, Robert (Wilfe) Allen of Ankeny and Thomas (Michelle) Allen of Olathe, KS; Eleven Grandchildren and Six Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada; parents and sister, Sylvia Pickard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel.
