Dortha L. Redding, 78, 1435 Riverside Dr., died at 9:01 p.m. Wednesday, (March 26, 1986) at Huntington Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted Sunday.
A lifelong resident of Huntington County, Mrs. Redding cared for approximately 500 children over a 50 year period, including some foster children.
She was born Feb. 16, 1908 in Huntington to Albert and Thericia L., Roberts Raber, and her marriage was on Oct. 23, 1926 in Markle to Eldon L. Redding Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs Jerald (Jean) Wintrode Sr., Mrs. DeWayne (Patricia) Lusch and Mrs. Marvin (Carolyn) Land, all of Huntington; four sons, Eldon L. Redding Jr., Indianapolis, Ronald W. Redding, Convoy, Ohio, and Thomas L. Redding and Steven M. Prilaman, both of Huntington; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Flossie Harris, Huntington. Two sisters, eight brothers, two step brothers and three great-grandchildren are deceased.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Deal & Robbins Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Duane Dickson officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
