J. T. was educated in the Lincoln County School System and was a faithful member of the Gold Hill Baptist Church where he was a trustee for many years and member of the Men's Ministry. He had been employed by Stowe Mills in Belmont, NC and retired from Pharr Yarns and Parkdale Mills. He was a member of the Rock Hill Lodge #329 of Lowesville, NC. J.T. was awarded the Long Leaf Pine award by Governor Beverly Perdue which is the highest award that can be bestowed upon a North Carolina citizen.
He was preceded by his wife, Annie Mae Copeland Rendleman; his daughter: Joann Copeland McLean; his three grandsons: James Andrea "Bo" McLean, Christopher McLean and David McLean and his granddaughter: Sindy McLean.
Interment in Rock Hill-Gold Hill Cemetery, Stanley.
