GEORGE WALDO CLARK DIES, AGED EIGHTY-TWO
Syracuse Pioneer in Music Business Victim of Stroke.
George Waldo Clark, 82, considered one of the leaders in the music trades for more than half a century, and for many years president of the Clark Music company, died at the Hospital of the Good Shepherd last night. He was taken to the hospital Monday from his home, 1237 East Genesee street, where he had suffered a stroke.
Mr. Clark was born and raised at Marathon. He came to Syracuse when 17 years old. Three years later he started in the music business in this city. He was closely identified with the Melville Clark Piano company of Chicago and was one of the founders of the Story & Clark piano company, of Chicago. He was considered one of the greatest authorities in the country on the harp and did much to popularize this instrument. He was connected with the Clark Music company of this city up to two and a half years ago when his health failed.
Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John W. Guibord of Plattsburg, Miss Bertha Clark of Syracuse and Miss Grace Clark of New York, and two sons, Arthur G. Clark of Woodcliffe on the Hudson and Melville Clark of this city. Three sisters and two brothers also survive.
Funeral services will be private from the home Monday afternoon.
