Mrs. Peggy G. Bryant, Galesburg Chapel
95, Sycamore, IL, formerly of Galesburg, died at 2:15 PM Saturday, December 18, 2004 in Bethany Health Care Center, DeKalb, IL.
She was born September 14, 1909 in Macomb, IL, the daughter of Alonzo and Jessie Thorpe. She married Donald R. Bryant on September 14, 1927 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1972.
She is survived by 2 sons, Donald L. (and Joan) Bryant, Alamogordo, NM and Joseph N. (and Theresa) Bryant, Honolulu, HI, 3 daughters, Donna L. Taylor, Hawthorne, CA, Barbara A. (and John) Curry, Sycamore, IL, and Nancy L. (and Cornell) Brown, Sacramento, CA, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, a brother-in-law, John (and Shirley) Steele, Sycamore, IL, a host of cousins, including Nadine Woodson, Chicago, IL and Herbert (and Ruth) Thorpe, Macomb, IL, and 2 nephews, William Steele in Arizona and Brian Steele, Sycamore, IL. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Faith Bryant, a daughter, Jessie Mae Green in 1999, a son-in-law, Julius L. Green, a daughter-in-law, Laura A. Bryant, and 3 grandsons, Wesley V. Taylor, Bryon L. Scott, and Aaron L. Bryant.
She was a homemaker. She had also done in home work for Tom and Jan West of Galesburg for 20 years. She had lived in Galesburg for 62 years and in Sycamore since 1989. She was raised and educated in Macomb until moving to Cedar Rapids, IA during her sophomore year. She studied piano and singing and graduated from high school there.
At the age of 19 in 1928 she became a member of Israel of God's Church, where she sang and played the piano for several years. She was a faithful member until her death.
Funeral will be 1 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2004 in Israel of God's Church in Galesburg. The Rev. Harold Boyd will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1 PM Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
