Mr. Davenport had been a member of First Baptist Church of Douglas since 1958 and wasa member of the American Legion. He graduated from the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 1953. He was a veteran of both WWII and Korean War; he also served in the Army Reserve. Mr. Davenport retired with over 30 years of service with the state and federal governments. Much of that time was spent as an entomologist with the United States Department of Agriculture.
Survivors include: his three daughters, Kim Davenport Kubas, of Evans, GA, Kelly Davenport Hutto, of Douglas, GA, and Kris (Kevin) Davenport Monaghan, of Lexington, SC, brother, Forrest (Shirley) Davenport, of Lilburn, GA, and six grandchildren, Nikolaos (Jenna) Hutto, of Alma, GA, Spencer Hutto, of Macon, GA, Austen Hutto, of Douglas, GA, Quentin Monaghan, of Lexington, SC, Ryan Monaghan, of Lexington, SC, and Zachary Kubas, of Evans, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Lucinda Hobby Davenport, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral Service was held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. . Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery of Fitzgerald, GA.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
