Zonettie Allice Givens was born 22 Dec 1866 in Craig Co, VA to George Edward and Malissa Ann Albert Givens, the first of their 11 children. Around 1870 the family moved to Forrestburg, Montague Co, TX. It was there in Dec 1883 that Nettie took on the responsibility of caring for the Van Scoder children, 18 month old twins, Zora and Zenis, and newborn Walen after their mother's death. She and Silas Charles Van Scoder were married in Montague Co on Walen's first birthday, Nov 16 1884.They had seven children:
Mertie Ann (Emmanuel) 1886-1977
Infant 1888-1888
Arvilla Wilma (Hall) 1891-1972
Silas Floyd 1896-1966
Infant 1899-1899
Lula Jane (Roten) 1901-1991
Leonard Edward 1905-1985
Around 1894 the family moved close to Duncan, Indian Territory in what was to become Oklahoma. In early 1902 they relocated to Commanche Co, Oklahoma Territory, now Tillman Co,OK, where they farmed and raised cattle. Silas passed away there May 10, 1938. Nettie followed on Jan 11, 1946 in Norman, Cleveland Co, OK and was laid to rest beside Silas, her husband of 54 years, in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery in Tillman Co, OK.
