WARREN E. ENBERG

Warren E. Enberg, 84, passed away July 15, 2009 at the Solvay Hospice House surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Duluth on Aug. 16, 1924 to Elmer and Alice (Aleckson) Enberg.

Warren graduated from Denfeld High School in 1943. After graduation he was accepted to the Army Air Corp Cadets program and was stationed at Randolph Field in Texas. He trained to fly B24's and P38's. He graduated from the Air Cadets in February, 1945 as a Flight Officer. During this time he studied at Xavier University in Cincinnati Ohio. Warren and Shirley (Ness) were married on Feb. 10, 1945 in Duluth and together they raised four children. While working along side of his father, Warren learned the trade of carpentry. He was employed by J.D. Harold first as a carpenter and later as a construction supervisor. He was in charge of building many well known buildings such as KDAL, renovations to St. Luke's Hospital, Woodland Jr., and other area schools. During his career he oversaw the construction of many major UMD buildings like the old Kirby Student Center, Home Ec, Math and Geology Buildings among others. He was then hired by the University of Minnesota and later by UMD as Supervisor of Structural Maintenance. He took great pride in the building he worked on and his careen at UMD. Warren retired from UMD on Oct. 5, 1988.

During his retirement he loved spending time with his family and friends at the cabin in Solon Springs, Wis. Warren enjoyed working on his stained glass, making model air planes, and listening to music. Warren and Shirley also enjoyed traveling. Warren was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity, serving on committees, ushering and at one time on the church board. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Warren is preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brother and sister; and his beloved and dearly missed daughter, Julie Ann Enberg (Oct. 2000).

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Shirley; his children, Sandra (Herb) Naegeli of Two Harbors, Carol (Steve) Grams of Duluth, and Bradly Enberg of Duluth; grandchildren, Jill (Eric) Lindeau of Eagle River, Alaska, Allison Naegeli of Two Harbors, Leanne Naegeli of Anchorage, Alaska; great-grandchildren, Shawna Suomi, Two Harbors, Emilee, Henry, Riley, and Luke Lindeau of Eagle River, Alaska, and a great-granddaughter on the way in Anchorage, Alaska.
