Entered VMI from Culpeper, VA on November 11, 1839 and graduated July 4, 1842, standing 8th out of 16 graduates; Cadet assistant professor of Math, 1840.

Civil War record:

On May 25, 1861 elected Captain, Company "I", 11th Virginia Infantry Regt;
Wounded in action (thigh) at Dranesville on Dec. 20, 1861; Resigned 26 April 1862, but in hospital as late as Sept. 1863;
Arrested by Federal troops at Culpeper C.H. on 26 May 1864 as "formerly a Capt. in C.S.A.";
Held at Point Lookout (Maryland) prison;
Died from effects of wound and imprisonment while on flag of truce boat on way to Richmond after exchange
(some records show he died at Richmond).

Career: lawyer, farmer.
Died September 1864, at or near Richmond, VA
