He enlisted on March 10, 1862 as a Private and served in Company I, Virginia Infantry of the Confederate Army.

He was promoted to Sergeant and wounded in action on November 27, 1863 at Mine Run. He became a Prison of War on September 22, 1864 at Strasburg and sent to Point Lookout. He was exchanged on March 17, 1965.

Wounded in Action (flesh wound in thigh) 27 Nov 1863 at Mine Run. Prisoner of War 22 Sept 1864 at Strasburg and sent to Point Lookout. Exchanged 17 Mar 1865.
