He was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of BASF. He was an avid golfer, helped start the Barboursville Fire Department and Little League Baseball in Barboursville and was also a former coach of the Babe Ruth Team.
He was also preceded in death by
his wife, Lucille Virginia Hatfield Gibson;
one daughter, Melanie Sue Dorton;
one granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Dorton.
He is survived by
his daughter, Deborah Debbie Ray of Barboursville, WV;
two grandsons, James (Sharon) Dorton of Biloxi, MS and Sam Dorton of Nebraska;
two great granddaughters, Madison and Savannah Dorton;
a special niece, Maxine Hodges of Hurricane, WV.
