May Ella (Clark) Basham was born on November 20, 1867 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, the daughter of Matthew "Beverly" Clark and Quintillia Cincinnatus (Atkinson) Clark.

She was married on October 16, 1890 in Muhlenburg County to George Basham (1867-1948).

May died of cancer on December 4, 1954 in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee and was buried two days later in Greenwood Cemetery.
